Kenya - One hundred and fifty kilometers north of Nairobi, in the heart of Kenya's Rift Valley, lies a sprawling 580 bed colonial style hospital. It was built in the 1940's while Kenya was still under British rule, and in the fifty-years following, the Rift Valley Provincial General Hospital has seen few improvements. It is severely understaffed, and under equipped. Typically, two and three patients share a bed. Medical care is very basic, and infection is rampant. For two weeks the hospital was home to an international team of doctors, nurses, and volunteers. This is the story of Operation Smile.
